Broons. Again.

Welp, the Habs are a lot better. The B's were probably the worst team over the last 82 games to make it into the playoffs. The bookies have made the Habs the biggest non-Detroit 1st round favourite. Then there's the whole sweeping the season series thing. Smells like an upset, doesn't it?

The last two Habs/Bruins series have been mentioned a lot. The 2004 upset wasn't really much of an upset. Look at the Canadiens' and Bruins' goal differentials. There were 11 points separating them in the standings, but only 5 goals.

The 2002 series is a better comparison to this year. They were 14 points apart in the standings and the Bruins were 37 goals better.

In 2002, the underdog team just had their top centre and inspirational leader bravely return from long term stay on the IR. That was Saku Koivu, who was recovering from a form of cancer: Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Now in 2008, the underdog team just had their top centre and inspirational leader bravely return from long term stay on the IR. That is Patrice Bergeron, who is recovering from a form of cancer: a cheap shot by a Philadelphia Flyer.

Also, it may not be malignant but there has to be a tumour or growth or something on Zdeno Chara's pituitary gland. That's another connection.

Most ominous of all: the B's had PJ Stock on their side in '02. He's in Montreal in '08.
