Market Watch - One Less Fish in the Sea

Sami Salo signed a 4-yr. extension at $3.5M per. Amazingly, that is the exact amount I guestimated he would get, albeit as an extension rather than on the free market.

The number makes $4.5M over 4 or 5 years sound like a reasonable deal for Markov.

A couple of bloggers have been tracking the odds of Eastern Conference teams making the playoffs: hockeyrodent and Hockey Numbers.

Salo would have been a great fit. Big, right handed, power shot.

Was he a UFA at the end of this season? I wonder if there are any other UFA's that fit the same profile. Finding that answer might be an exercise in futility -- not too many seem willing to come Montreal.

Nice deal for Vancouver, I'm inclined to agree with the majority consensus at HF... he too a home town discount. He probably could have hit ~4.5M or so on the open market had he gone to the highest bidder.

Nice top 3 they have now in Ohlund, Salo, Mitchell.
Ohlund is a huge bargain right now.

Koivu probably had something to do with bringing fellow Finn Niinimaa to town. I'm not suggesting that Koivu is making managerial moves, but he was probably consulted before the trade. Good idea, mediocre result.

I really hope Koivu is best buds with Kimmo Timonen - the best Finnish defenseman in the league and a pending UFA.
